sedation dentistry

Does the thought of dental treatment make you anxious? Do you avoid going to the dentist?

What if you could get all the treatment you need while free of fear and pain?

We are experts in sedation dentistry. We treat patients at all levels of anxiety and phobia. We offer different levels of sedation that can suit your needs: oral sedation (taking pills), nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or IV moderate sedation. Most patients report remembering little to nothing after their appointment. In this way the patient and the dentist are comfortable providing and receiving the best possible dental care possible in a safe, stress-free environment.

What is Sedation Dentistry or Sleep Dentistry?

Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, will distract your mind. Some people feel like they are floating, they feel warm, or their fingers and toes feel tingly. You will still be aware of what is happening around you. This is the lightest form of sedation we offer.

With oral sedation, pills are taken an hour before your appointment. You will feel relaxed while in a light state of sedation. Some patients doze off during their appointment. Most patients do not remember their appointment.

IV moderate sedation is a deeper level of sedation than oral sedation. Medications are given a small dose at time through an intravenous tube taped to the arm or hand. First you’ll feel relaxed. Then it feels like a nap, with little to no memory after the appointment.

You can drive yourself to and from and appointment that uses nitrous oxide. For oral sedation or IV sedation, you need someone to drive you to and from your appointment. Once you arrive, you are allowed to rest comfortably in a warm, quiet room. Your comfort is our priority.

Is sedation safe?

Dr. Morris has safely sedated thousands of patients. Throughout your sedation appointment, you will be monitored by a vital signs machine that tracks your breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, and more. In the unlikely event that any vitals signs seem abnormal, the sedation can be reversed to wake you. Besides his state dental license, Dr. Morris has extra training to have a state sedation permit in minimal sedation, oral sedation, and IV moderate sedation. The permit requires on-going continuing education in topics related to sedation and patient safety.

Sedation is recommended for anxious patients, complicated dental surgeries, or for long appointments. Complex dental treatments that often require six or more appointments can be done in as little as one!

All while you sleep.
